Big Bang Theory

I LOVE Sheldon on CBS's The Big Bang Theory.

He is so pompous yet is hysterical beyond measure.

In this week's episode, he was telling his friends that simple Rock Paper Scissors is too simplistic especially if you are playing against someone you know well. His more scientific version of the game was:

Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock (RPSLS)

Here is how it works. I think you can only be a fricken physicist to understand this.

Scissors cut paper.
Paper covers rock.

Rock crushes lizard.

Lizard poisons Spock.

Spock smashes scissors.

Scissors decapitates lizard.

Lizard eats paper.

Paper disproves Spock.

Spock vaporizes rock.

And as always rock crushes scissors.

Here is a diagram to better explain it (HA HA HA!)

The best part is, Sheldon rattles this off at light speed using the hand gestures and while Leonard looks baffled Koothrappali says to him, "Okay, I got it."

Here is a website where you can play RPSLS. I have to say, the pictures are classic.

In case you missed this episode or want to see this part again, here ya go.

Watch CBS Videos Online

And here's a classic photo just because.

Modern Pirates

Who knew pirates still existed?

I just read an article about the Indian Navy sinking a pirate ship in the Gulf of Alden. Apparently that area is beginning to be overrun with pirates. Today's pirates use rocket propelled grenade launchers.

Yikes.

They sound WAY scarier than the Pirates of the Caribbean.

The Perfect Gift

Has anyone seen the movie "A Christmas Story" ? Remember when poor 9 year old Ralphie gets a handmade pink rabbit costume from his aunt for Christmas?

"You lool like a deranged Easter Bunny," declares his father after his mom MAKES him try it on.

Seriously. Don't do this to someone you love.

Don't buy your niece who has green hair, her eyebrow pierced and a tattoo sleeve Cow rain boots. That is totally the equivalent of the pink bunny costume.

Why not let her choose her own boots instead?

DLL Rainwear now has gift certificates available for purchase on our website.

Yippee!

Hurrah!!

Problem solved.

Just click on the gift certificate item, enter the amount you wish to purchase as well as whether you want the certificate delivered via snail mail or email and Voila! You are done.

The recipient can go to our site and choose whatever THEY want.

And everyone is happy.

**No pink bunnies were hurt during the writing of this blog.

California Fallin. And Whining.

There really IS a season called fall in California. Maybe our leaves aren't as stunning or our weather as crisp (try incoming record HIGH temperatures in the Bay Area over the next few days---UGH!) but we do have an autumn however brief and void of fantastic foliage it may be.

For those of you unfamiliar with our state's true climate (I know people think it is always 70 degrees here), the seasons (and emotional state of our populace) in many areas of California go like this:

Spring: February-May

We whine that it is still only 60 degrees which results in it skyrocketing instantaneously to the high 80s.

Summer: June-October

We whine about the blistering heat--which for most is anything over 77 degrees and declines with your age.

Fall: November (which day(s) is always TBD)

We whine that is it not cool enough yet and that we need some RAIN.

Winter: December-January

It gets COLD (read: 50s) and rains and we whine that we miss the sun.

So here we are in our brief autumn with a bout of summer temps headed our way. Then just you watch. It will get frigid (again---50s). We are wimps. And whiners.

But for today, it is fall. And it is beautiful.

A New Outfit for Virtual Barbie

It has been awhile since I gave Virtual Barbie some new clothes. Today she is dressed all in black with a vibrant floral splash of color.

Her Rainforest coat is spendy but very fashionable, fitted and extremely well made---a purchase that will last seasons to come. Her Sperry Sadie boots have a Tweed lace cuff, a sexy wedge heel and are super comfy to boot (no pun intended). To top it all off is her gorgeous Totes umbrella.

Totes Paisley Floral Compact Umbrella: $24.00

Robots Everywhere

I blogged a few weeks ago about the creepy robotic girl and today I found an article about Honda creating robotic legs for people who are elderly, going through physical rehabilitation and workers who are on their feet all day. It is definitely not as creepy and is kind of an interesting concept.

But really strange looking.

And a little, um....shall we say intimate, in the groin area.

Personally I am waiting for the robotic third arm.

I might look like Doc Ock from Spiderman but hey, I could do oh-so-many things all at once!

Of course I would use my robotic arms for good and not evil.

That is my story and I'm sticking to it.

Lovely Ladybugs

Yesterday on a celebrity website I found this photo of Katie Holmes with her daughter, Suri, sheltered under a Ladybug umbrella.

Here is a Western Chief Ladybug umbrella we have that is very similar and much cuter if I do say so myself.

We also have ladybug boots (women's and children's) and a matching kid's rain coat.

So your little bug can be outfitted from head to toe just like Suri.

Now THAT'S a Puddle!

We had a fairly good rainstorm over the weekend. On Sunday I went for a walk on a local creek trail and saw this puddle. It was so big I had to take two pictures of it. It must have been 15 or 20 feet long. (It wasn't at a right angle...that is just how I had to photograph it).

I was a little sad that I had on my sneakers and not my rain boots.

Cuz I totally wanted to splash in that sucker.
BTW....If the pictures aren't lined up....I tried. I really did.

Let It Snow!

Here in perpetually sunny and warm California, we just had our first good rainstorm. And the rain makes many people's thoughts turn to snow...and skiing, snowball fights or if you are me, sitting by a fire reading a book with a hot toddy! (I no likey the cold).

My boys bug me every year to head to the snow but when we get there they are ready to leave in 10 minutes because they are freezing. We are, after all, Californians and tend to freeze to death once it hits in the 50s. Many of us have wimpy constitutions.

We just got some snugly new Hatley snow gear boots and coats for kids. So the next time we visit the snow at least the boys won't be whining. But you can bet I probably will be!

Ordering Deadlines for the Holidays

The holidays are right around the corner already. Can you believe it? Time to start shopping for gifts. Please keep the following information in mind when you place your orders.

  • DLL Rainwear does not ship orders during the weekends.

  • Please factor in 2 to 3 days to process your order prior to shipment.

  • Please provide a phone number and email address in case we need to contact you.

  • UPS does not operate on weekends.

  • UPS will not deliver on December 25th.

  • DLL Rainwear will be closed December 25 & 26th and will resume shipping on the 29th.

To ensure you receive your order by December 25th, here are some helpful deadlines (for the contiguous United States).

Last Day to ship UPS Ground service:

Friday Dec. 12th: East Coast

Monday Dec. 15th: Midwest

Thursday Dec. 18th: West Coast

Last Day to ship UPS 3 Day service:

Thursday Dec. 18th: East Coast, Midwest and West Coast

Last Day to ship UPS 2 Day service:

Friday Dec. 19th: East Coast, Midwest and West Coast

Last Day for UPS Next Day service:

Monday Dec. 22rd: All US locations

Obviously we will accept orders received after these dates and will do our best to get them shipped out quickly.

The above dates account for processing time at our warehouse but do NOT take into account any possible bad weather, acts of nature or other issues beyond our control which may affect delivery.

International Orders:

We always recommend ordering as early as possible. Customs processing dramatically increases before the holidays and can (and will) delay delivery of your package for weeks. On average, customs will take 3 to 4 weeks (if not more) during these busy months.

Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, Military Addresses:

Your order will be shipped using at least USPS Priority Mail. Unfortunately Priority Mail is NOT guaranteed by the postal service to arrive in under 14 days and is technically not even considered traceable (even though there is a tracking number). If you need it fast and want to be able to track your package, we recommend Express Mail. Shipping to military addresses may take longer.

Some final notes...

We always suggest ordering early to get the best selection as well as to avoid nail-biting while waiting for the delivery man.

Please be sure to check your email and voice mail as we might need to reach your regarding your order. Items do run out quickly and sometimes we need to inform you of an out of stock item. The longer it takes us to reach you, the more your order will be delayed.

We hope you all have a wonderful holiday season. Please do contact us if we can be of any help.
